Civil Rights Historian to Speak at DCCC in Honor of MLK Day
Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - January 17, 2025)—Delaware County Community College will present a special lecture and musical event in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, January 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the College’s Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063). The event will begin at 6 p.m. with live music and continue at 7 p.m. with a lecture by Civil Rights historian Chanelle N. Rose, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of Africana Studies at Rowan University, and the author of “The Struggle for Black Freedom in Miami: Civil Rights and America’s Tourist Paradise, 1896-1968” (LSU Press, 2015).
Dr. Rose will share reflections on the contributions of ordinary individuals in South Florida’s Black Freedom Struggle. Additionally, she will provide insights into the Civil Rights and Black Power movements and discuss how Dr. King’s legacy was shaped by various efforts across the southern United States.
