(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - May 17, 2023)—Starting in June, Delaware County Community College will offer a free Summer 2023 Bridge Program to high school graduates planning to attend the College to help them enhance their academic skills, increase their self-confidence and successfully transition into college-level coursework. For those who qualify, tuition and textbooks are free.
Three seven-week programs in English, Reading and Mathematics will be offered between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 26 through August 10. The classes will take place in person at the College’s Upper Darby Center, located just behind the Barclay Square Shopping Center at 1570 Garrett Road in Upper Darby. (During the summer months the College is closed on Fridays.)
Courses offered will include Developmental Reading (REA 050); Developmental English, including Speech (ENG 050); and Basic or Developmental Mathematics (MAT 025 or MAT 050). To qualify for the program, students must be new to Delaware County Community College with a high school diploma, GED, or a gap of three or more years since attending school. They will also be required to score at a certain level on the College’s placement tests in ENG 050, REA 050 and MAT 025 or MAT 050.
Tutoring, computers and support services will be available free of charge, and structured lab sessions with professional tutors will be required. Professional, experienced College staff will encourage students to become independent learners by teaching them study skills to improve reading, organizing, note-taking, time management and test-taking. Help also will be provided in career-planning and decision-making, course selection and personal counseling.
Students must complete the College’s admission application and placement test to determine eligibility. Summer 2023 Bridge Program credits are not applicable toward a degree or certificate.
