DCCC Offers Free 18-Credit Social Work Pilot Program to High School Students; Info Sessions 5/28, 6/3 and 6/10
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - May 23, 2024)—Rising high school seniors in Delaware County can attend Delaware County Community College at no cost and earn up to 18 credits toward an associate degree in Social Work as part of the Social and Human Service Assistant Program, a new pilot program available through a partnership between the College and Delaware County Council.
The program addresses a high priority need to fill social work and human services jobs in Delaware County over the next several years. It will run through June 2025 and is designed to introduce students to the field. Classes will be held at DCCC’s Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063) and will include six classes: General Psychology, English Composition I, Introduction to Social Work, Introduction to Information Technology, Public Speaking, and Human Behavior and the Social Environment.
The program is a High School Dual Enrollment pathway at the College. Dual enrollment provides students with an opportunity to complete college-level coursework and earn college credits while still in high school, which saves them time and money. Students who complete the program will earn a certificate and will be able to transfer the 18 credits to a DCCC associate degree program or to a four-year institution.
Interested students and their families are invited to attend Information Sessions on the following dates: Tuesday, May 28 from 5 to 6 p.m. (virtual); Monday, June 3 from 5 to 6 p.m. (in-person at the Marple Campus) and Monday, June 10 from 4 to 5 p.m. (virtual). Interested students can register here or by visiting dccc.edu/shsa.
The Priority Application Deadline is Wednesday, June 12, and the first cohort will begin in the fall of 2024. For more information, please contact the DCCC Admissions Office at 610-359-5050 or admiss@dccc.edu.
