Assistance Available for Students Affected by The Art Institute of Philadelphia's Closing
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • July 16, 2018)—Delaware County Community College is offering assistance to students affected by the closing of The Art Institute of Philadelphia, whether they are almost finished with their degree or just beginning their educational journey. Transfer credit is available, and the College offers many of the same programs as The Art Institute. Plus, with the College’s annual tuition for in-state residents ranging from $2,904 to $5,808 (range based on 24 per credits per year), students stand to save thousands of dollars compared to The Art Institute’s average of $48,000 for an associate degree.
The College offers a variety of parallel programs, including associate degrees or certificates in Game Development, Interactive Multimedia, Web Development and Web Programming. An Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) program in Graphic Design, Photography and Studio Art is also available. The program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design, making it one of only 14 community college AFA programs nationwide to have earned this distinction. Led by award-winning artists, the program allows students to achieve a general education core while producing a strong visual arts portfolio and corresponds to the first two years of study at a university, enabling students to attain the necessary tools, knowledge and critical thinking skills to transfer successfully to the institution of their choice.
Culinary Arts is also a focus at the College, with both an Associate in Applied Science degree and certificate program available. The Culinary Arts program is led by renowned Chef Peter Gilmore and offers two locations—one in Delaware County at Widener University through a special partnership between the two institutions, and one in Chester County at the College’s Brandywine Campus (455 Boot Road, Downingtown, PA).
All students benefit from the College’s affordable tuition, eight convenient locations throughout Delaware and Chester Counties and flexible class times, including online and on-campus courses as well as credit and non-credit programs.
Students displaced by the Art Institute of Philadelphia’s closing are encouraged to contact Admissions at 610-359-5050 for help continuing their education.
