The College Presents '215 | 610 Contemporary Juried Exhibition of Regional Artists' November 6-December 13
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • October 23, 2019)—Delaware County Community College presents 215|610 CONTEMPORARY Juried Exhibition of Regional Emerging Artists, on view November 6 through December 13 at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA.
At 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, there will be a juror’s talk featuring Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) Museum and 2019 guest juror Jodi Throckmorton. It will be held in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building. The exhibition reception will be held 4–7 p.m., the same evening, in the Art Gallery, Room 2305 in the Academic Building.
The purpose of the juried exhibition, which includes the work of 35 artists from the tristate area, is to create a platform for critical discourse through an exchange of ideas and to push the boundaries of an age-old practice. We encourage members of the community and beyond to attend the juror’s talk followed by the exhibition opening reception in an effort to provide a space to learn, observe and experience critical issues within contemporary art.
Throckmorton joined PAFA after serving as Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University, Kansas. Previously, Throckmorton was the Associate Curator at the San Jose Museum of Art. She holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and French from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Throckmorton co-organized, with former PAFA Director Harry Philbrick, Dive Deep: Eric Fischl and the Process of Painting, which was on exhibit at PAFA and the San Jose Museum of Art (2012-13). Other current and prior projects of Throckmorton’s include Rina Banerjee: Make Me a Summary of the World (2018); Melt/Carve/Forge: Embodied Sculptures by Cassils (2017); Fernando Orellana: His Study of Life (2016); Postdate: Photography and Inherited History in India (2015); Bruce Conner: Somebody Else's Prints (2014); Questions from the Sky: New Work by Hung Liu (2013); Ranu Mukherjee: Telling Fortunes (2012); and This Kind of Bird Flies Backward: Paintings by Joan Brown (2011).
The exhibition, artist lecture and reception are part of the Delaware County Community College’s Visual Arts Series and are free and open to the public. Reservations for the artist lecture are strongly recommended and can be made at dccc.edu/gallery. Normal operating hours of the Art Gallery are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Friday. The Art Gallery will be closed November 28 and 29.
