New Music Concert Series Presents Transient Canvas Marimba and Bass Clarinet Duo on November 7
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • October 29, 2019)—Delaware County Community College’s New Music Concert Series ends the fall season with a performance by Transient Canvas on Thursday, November 7. The performance begins at 5 p.m. in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building on the Marple Campus, 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA.
Contemporary duo Transient Canvas presents Wired, a portrait of technology’s integration into modern life and our social, political and ecological environments. An electroacoustic program, Transient Canvas confronts and explores the blurred dichotomies of digital/physical landscapes, processed/natural sounds and artificial intelligence/human creativity. The music is by Avik Chari, Carl Schimmel, Heather Stebbins, Dan VanHassel, Kirsten Volness and Jen Wang.
Boston-based contemporary duo Transient Canvas is on a mission to revolutionize the modern concert experience. Since 2011, their innovative performances have been praised as “superb” by The Boston Globe and “disarming” by Cleveland Classical, with the San Francisco Chronicle lauding “the versatile imagination they both display and inspire in others.”
The duo, bass clarinetist Amy Advocat and marimbist Matt Sharrock, relish the creative potential of working with living composers, having amassed a varied repertoire of more than 80 commissioned works in addition to working with hundreds of student composers from all over the world. Since 2017, they have hosted their annual Composition Fellowship program, which is free and open to composers of all ages. They maintain an active touring schedule with recent performances at the Charlotte New Music Festival, Music on the Edge, Composers, Inc., Music at the Forefront, and People Inside Electronics, among others. Recent educational residencies include the University of Southern California, University of Pittsburgh, North Carolina New Music Initiative, and Divergent Studio at Longy School of Music. They have two albums, Sift and Wired, both released on New Focus Recordings. Transient Canvas proudly endorses Henri Selmer Paris and Marimba One.
General admission to the performance is $10 and tickets are available online or at the door. Free admission for students of local colleges, universities and high schools.
