Month-Long Arts Festival "Articulture" Kicks Off March 26

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Articulture, Delaware County Community College’s biennial arts festival, kicks off March 26 and runs through April 26. Articulture is hosted by the College’s arts faculty and is intended to cultivate the arts in the Delaware Valley region through the presentation of contemporary works and performances by featured artists of both regional and international reputation. The theme for the month-long festival is “Spirituality in Art.” Each event explores the many different, contradictory and sometimes atypical ways in which art interprets the sublime and transcendent experience of the spiritual. Following is the schedule of events:
- “Blasphemy and Devotion: Redefining the Spiritual in Art”: An exhibition curated by Jeanne Brody and Emily Hage that explores how a broad range of artists continue to wrestle with issues related to religion and spirituality in their works. This exhibition seeks to explore the various ways in which they do so. Features: Rita Bernstein, Martin Brief, Moe Brooker, Lesley Dill, Ellen Frank, Taehee Kim, Nicholas Kripal, Dennis McNally and Paul Swenbeck. An opening reception is scheduled for March 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the College’s Art Gallery (Academic Building, Room 2305). The exhibition is on view through April 26. Free and open to the public.
- Artist Panel Discussion: On March 28 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. featured artists Dill, Kripal, McNally and Swenbeck will discuss their work. Discussion will be held in Room 1407, STEM Center. Free and open to the public.
- “The Art of Illumination with Ellen Frank”: On April 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Frank will host a workshop in the College’s Painting Studio (Room 3281 in the Academic Building). Free and open to the public.
- Godspell: Student theatre performance directed by Beth Criscuolo and Christopher Sapienza. Runs April 10 to 13 and 17 to 20 with showtimes at 7 p.m. Held in the College’s Large Auditorium. Admission is $6.
- Dolce Suono Ensemble: Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. in the College’s Large Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
- SpectiCast screening of Mozart’s “The Great Mass”: Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in the College’s Large Auditorium. $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $7.50 for students and children.
