New Music Concert Series Presents Pianist Clipper Erickson

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Delaware County Community College’s New Music Concert Series concludes its spring season with a performance by Philadelphia-based pianist Clipper Erickson on Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public and will be held in the College’s Large Auditorium in the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
Known for his passionate and colorful playing, Erickson’s performance will feature a diverse repertoire of American music from the 20th and 21st centuries. This includes Aaron Copland’s Four Piano Blues, Laurie Altman’s Pedro’s Story and Sonata V, and Samuel Barber’s Sonata for piano, op. 26. His performance will also mark the U.S. premiere of Carta de Buenos Aires - Tango Sonatina, a piece written exclusively for Erickson by Temple University professor and composer Richard Brodhead.
Erickson made his debut as a soloist with the Young Musicians Foundation Orchestra at the age of nineteen. After studying at The Juilliard School, Yale University, and Indiana University with the renowned British pianist John Ogdon, his interpretations began earning prizes at international competitions including the Busoni, William Kapell, and the American Pianists Association. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras and in recitals in some of the most famous concert venues in the world, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to his powerful renditions of the great classical repertoire, Erickson's interpretations of American music from past and present have launched a series of CD releases that have received considerable critical acclaim and have often been featured on radio stations throughout the U.S.
Through his commitment to education, performance in schools, and masters classes, Erickson works to inspire future generations of musicians and encourage them to love music. His teaching career has included appointments at Bucknell University, Temple University, and Westminster Conservatory.
