Surgical Technology Information Sessions Offered This Fall

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Interested in learning more about a career as a surgical technologist? Want to enroll in Delaware County Community College’s Surgical Technology program? Learn more at one of three information sessions hosted by the College this fall. All sessions are free and open to the public and will be held in the STEM Center, Room 1403 on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media).
At each session, representatives from the Surgical Technology program and the Admissions Office will be on hand to outline the curriculum, clinical experience and entrance requirements needed to enter the fall 2013 program. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. Sessions will run for approximately an hour and a half. Please arrive early to sign in and pick up informational materials. Choose from one of the following dates:
- Thursday, September 20, at 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 9, at 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 30, at 11 a.m.
Delaware County Community College offers an Associate in Applied Sciences in Surgical Technology. This two-year degree program prepares students to function as health team members under the supervision of registered professional nurses or licensed physicians. Students complete clinical experiences in local hospitals and learn how to identify preoperative patient-care concepts, how to apply intraoperative patient care concepts during basic, intermediate and advanced surgical interventions and more. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
Surgical technologists are employed by hospitals, physicians, dentists and outpatient care centers. According to the United States Department of Labor, employment of surgical technologists is expected to increase by 19 percent through 2020. In 2010, the average median pay for surgical technologists was $39,920 per year.
