(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Beginning Monday, September 17, 2012, Delaware County Community College will offer a 10-week career workshop on Navigating Your Career in Challenging Times. The workshop will be held on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media).
Navigating Your Career in Challenging Times provides structure and support for men and women attempting to cope with the uncertainty of a changing job market. The workshop is targeted to the unemployed or those still working who lack a sense of direction and focus.
Participants will learn how to manage their careers, how to network, how to construct a strong résumé, and how to job search effectively. The group will take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupational interests. They will also meet one-on-one with one of the workshop leaders and identify their strongest marketable skills to develop an individualized plan to move ahead proactively.
“The College knew that in the present climate we needed to provide special assistance,” says Ruth Campbell, who co-designed and facilitates the workshop with Will Miller. “Workers need to have a stronger career strategy than ever before. Going from job to job without a focus puts workers in a one-down position with very little security.”
Campbell is a career counselor and professor at the College, a licensed professional counselor and a nationally certified career counselor. Miller serves as a career counselor at the College and previously worked in the information technology field.
The cost of the workshop is $114 for residents of sponsoring school districts, $163 for those in non-sponsoring districts. The cost of the Myers-Briggs and the Strong Inventory is included.
Space is limited, and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact the Career and Counseling Center at 610-359-5324. To register, call the Community Education Office at 610-359-5025.
