College Holds Emergency Preparedness Exercise at Upper Darby Center
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • May 8, 2017)—Delaware County Community College and the Upper Darby Police Department joined forces to hold two emergency preparedness exercises—one on Sunday, April 30 and one on Sunday, May 7.
The exercises, which featured a simulated active shooter situation at the College’s Upper Darby Center (1570 Garrett Road, Upper Darby, PA), is the latest emergency preparedness initiative taken by the College. Volunteers played the roles of students and professors during the exercise, which included several simulated casualties.
"We take the safety of our students, staff and visitors very seriously and want to be as prepared as possible in the event of a true emergency," said President Dr. Jerry Parker. "Our sincere thanks to the Upper Darby Police Department and other agencies that helped the College conduct this exercise."
The College has an Incident Command System in place to ensure that the institution is as prepared as possible in the event of an actual emergency on any of its campuses. The two exercises at the Upper Darby Center provided the opportunity to test the system and make sure it is running effectively and efficiently. The College previously conducted similar exercises at the Marple Campus, the Exton Center and the Downingtown Campus.
