Half Million Dollar Perkins Grant Awarded to College
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • August 16, 2017)—Delaware County Community College has received a grant totaling more than $506,000 to support career and technical education.
Funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Education’s Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (Perkins Act) and is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Career and Technical Education. The Perkins Act supports projects at the post-secondary and secondary levels that seek to increase the number of graduates from programs that support high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage occupations. The College’s 2017-18 program will include specialized tutoring services for eligible students; job placement support; retention support for at-risk students enrolled in career and technical (CTE) programs; recruitment and retention of students into CTE programs nontraditional by gender; professional development for faculty and staff involved in career and technical education; and activities, equipment and software to support the Hotel Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, Allied Health and Nursing, Electro-Mechanical Technologies, Computer Science, Advanced Manufacturing and Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) programs.
