+ What benefit am I eligible for and what does each benefit provide?

There are several state and federal education benefits for both Veteran and Military students, each with its own eligibility criteria. Please check out the list below and find your benefit..
Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill®: This program provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. It covers tuition and fees, basic allowance for housing (BAH), and a book stipend every full academic term.
Chapter 35: Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA): DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
Chapter 1606: Montgomery GI Bill®(MGIB): The MGIB program provides education benefits to veterans who meet certain service requirements and contribute to the program during their military service. The MGIB-Active Duty (MGIB-AD) is for active-duty service members, while the MGIB-Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) is for members of the Selected Reserve.
Chapter 31:Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VRE)
Federal Tuition Assistance: Active-duty service members can receive financial assistance to cover a portion of tuition and fees for courses taken at accredited institutions. Requirements vary by branch, but generally, service members must be on active duty and have time remaining in service after the course completion date. The benefit amount varies by branch, but it’s typically limited to a set amount per credit hour and an annual cap. Some service members may be able to use their GI Bill® benefits and EAP to supplement TA funds for courses that cost more than the TA benefit covers.

To learn more about each of these benefit programs, go to our Veteran Benefits Eligibilitypage.

+ How do I use my benefit at DCCC?

Many students reach out to the DCCC Veteran Services Office looking to use their VA Chapter Benefit, but don’t know what steps they need to take in order to make it happen. Students are required to complete the enrollment steps found on our Enrollment Steps page. Once students are enrolled and have completed their courses they may submit the Certification Request Form that corresponds to their benefit and student status (new/current) Certification and Enrollment Changes All VA/Military education benefit recipients must submit a Certification Request Form for each academic year that they intend to use their benefits. New Students must be enrolled in courses prior to submitting their initial Certification Request Form, any submission made prior to enrollment will be denied. Students must notify the Veteran Services Office of any changes to enrollment by email us at va@dccc.edu or by calling 610-359-5346. Failure to contact us regarding changes to enrollment may result in financial debts. If you need assistance in dropping or adding courses to the current semester please contact advising by visiting dccc.edu/dropin.

+ Rules regarding benefit usage

The VA has three general rules for all Chapter recipients to follow in order to receive their education benefit. While DCCC will always serve as a resource and guide for this process, it is up to our veteran students to fulfill the necessary steps to class enrollment and certification verification. Visit the six steps to using your benefit to review the three rules.

+ DCCC VA Education Benefit Processing Statement

At the DCCC Veteran Services Office, we understand the critical role that benefit certifications play in helping our students achieve their academic and career goals. To ensure the integrity of our certification process, we process all certifications within 14-20 business days prior to the start of each semester. We know that receiving benefits on time is crucial for our students, and we are committed to meeting the compliance parameters set by the VA while also ensuring that students’ courses are held and not dropped due to non-payment upon submission of the Certification Request Form. We take pride in our dedication to our students and their success, and we will continue to provide exceptional service in all that we do. Thank you for choosing the DCCC Veteran Services Office for your benefits, and we look forward to serving you.
