DCCC Political Science Professor Ife Williams, Ph.D., Publishes New Book
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA - April 2, 2024)—Ife Williams, Ph.D., professor of Political Science at Delaware County Community College, is the author of a new book, Police Brutality: A Philadelphia Story (Lexington Books, 2023).
Using the city of Philadelphia as a case study, the book examines numerous themes within policing, such as historical-cultural sentiment; the role of city officials in the exacerbation of abuse; federal litigation; and civil activism aimed at curbing police violence. An accomplished scholar and political scientist, Dr. Williams shares the results of years of research conducted in Philadelphia.
“Ife Williams has studied tensions between civilian police and African American communities for decades. Her Police Brutality: A Philadelphia Story is a serious examination of the ways in which these relationships evolved from the city’s earliest days into the 21st century,” noted reviewer Dianne Pinderhughes, Ph.D., professor of Africana Studies and Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. “Scholars, public officials and community leaders will want to include this new source in their libraries for Williams’ depth and insight.”
Dr. Williams recently received a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support her project, “Mapping Resistance of Africans and African Descendants to Colonialism and Segregation, 1945-1990.” The grant will fund a 15-month digital humanities project to create curricular materials on the resistance of Africans and African descendants to segregation and colonialism in the late 20th century.
Dr. Williams holds a doctorate in Political Science and Government from Clark Atlanta University.
