Professional Licensure Information

Delaware County Community College provides quality programs designed to meet certain professional licensure/certification requirements. Federal reporting requirements (34 CFR §668.43) require that a program clearly indicate that it meets State educational requirements, does not meet State requirements, or has not determined whether it meets State requirements. Out-of-state students, or those planning to pursue employment out-of-state, should review that state’s licensing requirements on its state board website. Additional information is available from CareerOneStop.

Degree Programs

Accounting (Professional) Certificate (ACC)
This program offers students the specific education needed to sit for the Certified Public Accountant’s examination. Those individuals without a bachelor’s degree may enroll in this program; however, the bachelor’s degree is required to sit for the CPA exam.

Early Childhood Director (ECD)
This certificate of competency also meets the educational requirements for Pennsylvania’s Director Credential that is awarded by the Pennsylvania Early Learning Keys to Quality. Students seeking this certificate must have an AAS or AS in ECE or related field or higher or have completed 45 hours towards an AAS degree in Early Childhood Education.

Early Childhood Professional Core (ECP)
This certificate meets the required 30 credits in Early Childhood Education per the Pennsylvania Career Lattice in Early Childhood Education.

Information Technology, Help Desk/Technical Support (DPM)
The learning sequence established by this curriculum is designed to prepare students to qualify to take certification examinations including, Net +, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), Service Technician (A+), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Novell Certified Netware Administrator (CNA) and Cisco (CCNA).

Electro-Mechanical Technologies Certificate (ELTC)
The curriculum used has been approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, for the 144 hours of classroom training required in an electrical apprenticeship program.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Certificate
EPA Section 609 Technician Certification
Section 608 of the Clean Air Act define a "technician" as an individual who performs any of the following activities:

  • Attaching and detaching hoses and gauges to and from an appliance to measure pressure within the appliance.
  • Adding refrigerant to or removing refrigerant from an appliance.
  • Any other activity that violates the integrity of a motor vehicle air conditioner (MVAC)-like appliance or small appliance (other than disposal).
  • This program meets the requirements for:

Manufacturing CNC (CNC)
The curriculum is designed to prepare students to sit for NIMS certification upon completion of the program. NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) credentials signifies a person can perform the work of a CNC Machine Operator according to recognized national standards.

Municipal Police Academy (MPT)
The Police Academy provides the basic training (Act 120) curriculum that is required for every municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to work as police officers in Pennsylvania.

Health Studies – Neurodiagnostic Technology (HSNT)
The Neurodiagnostic Technology Program is accredited as the Crozer-Chester Medical Center School of Clinical Neurophysiology by the Commission on Accreditation of the Allied Health Education Program (www.CAAHEP.org). After the first six months of enrollment, the students are eligible to take Part I of the Electroencephalographic Written Exam (R.EEG.T). Sitting for Part 1 of this exam is a requirement of the program and should be scheduled prior to the final semester. HSNT program graduates, who successfully pass Part II of the exam, will be awarded the R. EEG.T credential. Graduates are immediately eligible to apply for registration in Evoked Potential (R.EP.T). After employment in a field of advanced monitoring, technologists who hold the R. EEG.T. credential, can become certified in Long Term Monitoring (CLTM) or Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM).

Medical Assistant (MED, CMED)
Medical assistant students are required to sit for the national certification examination offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) at a designated time during enrollment in the Medical Assistant Practicum AHM 199 Medical Assistant Externship. The cost of the exam is included in the program’s tuition.

Medical Coding and Billing (MC, MCBA)
The graduate of this certificate/degree may take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Certification Exam offered by AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). After completing CCA exam and/or working in the field, students qualify to take the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P) exam offered by AHIMA.

Nursing (NURS)
Upon successful completion of the curriculum, students receive an associate in applied science (AAS) degree and are eligible to sit for the state licensure examination to become registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).

Paramedic (EMTP, MEDX)
Upon successful completion of the 40 credits of EMTP and EMS core classes and 8 credits of BIO 150 Human Anatomy and Physiology I, BIO 151 Human Anatomy and Physiology II and NUS 102 Nursing Mathematics: Dosage Calculation and Drug Preparation, with a “C” or better, students are eligible to sit for the National Registry exam to become certified as a Paramedic. This national certification exam consists of twelve psychomotor (skills) stations as well as a computer-based cognitive exam.

Respiratory Therapy (RESP)
Upon completion of the two-year program with a grade of “C” or better in all respiratory therapy courses the degree of associate in applied science is awarded. The graduate is immediately eligible for the Therapist Multiple-Choice Exam. Upon successful completion of this exam, the graduate is eligible to take the Clinical Simulation Exam. When both sections are successfully completed, the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential is awarded. These exams are administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

RN First Assistant in Surgery (NURR)
The program is approved for continuing education credits by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses Inc., is an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation and is acknowledged by the Competency and Credentialing Institute as meeting the educational requirements to sit for the RNFA Certification Exam.

Surgical Technology (ORT)
Upon completion of all required course in the program and immediately following successful completion of AHS 200 and AHS 201, each student is required to sit, with their cohort for the National Certification Examination for Surgical Technologists offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology (NBSTSA) as a condition of program graduation without exception.

Non-Credit Programs

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (Level1)
CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) from the National Health Career Association. A medical assistant is a multi-skilled allied health care professional that specializes in procedures commonly performed in the ambulatory health care setting. Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They typically work in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers and may work in general medicine or specialty practices.

Pharmacy Technician
Eligibility Requirements

  • Completion of a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program or equivalent work experience
  • Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions
  • Compliance with all applicable PTCB Certification policies
  • Passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE)

Electrocardiography (EKG Technician)
Prepare to become a certified EKG technician and to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT) – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam.  An EKG technician is a cardiology technologist with specialized training in operating equipment used to measure a patient’s heart performance.
