+ What benefit am I eligible for and what does each benefit provide?
There are several state and federal education benefits for both Veteran and Military students, each with its own eligibility criteria. Please check out the list below and find your benefit..
Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill®: This program provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. It covers tuition and fees, basic allowance for housing (BAH), and a book stipend every full academic term.
Chapter 35: Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA): DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
Chapter 1606: Montgomery GI Bill®(MGIB): The MGIB program provides education benefits to veterans who meet certain service requirements and contribute to the program during their military service. The MGIB-Active Duty (MGIB-AD) is for active-duty service members, while the MGIB-Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) is for members of the Selected Reserve.
Chapter 31:Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VRE)
Federal Tuition Assistance: Active-duty service members can receive financial assistance to cover a portion of tuition and fees for courses taken at accredited institutions. Requirements vary by branch, but generally, service members must be on active duty and have time remaining in service after the course completion date. The benefit amount varies by branch, but it’s typically limited to a set amount per credit hour and an annual cap. Some service members may be able to use their GI Bill® benefits and EAP to supplement TA funds for courses that cost more than the TA benefit covers.
To learn more about each of these benefit programs, go to our Veteran Benefits Eligibilitypage.
